HYDROPONICS is a method of growing plants in nutrient solutions, without soil. Under normal conditions, soil captures and stores nitrogen, potassium, and other mineral nutrients, which plant roots absorb gradually. Hydroponics, in contrast, immerses roots directly in liquid nutrient solutions. Plants are either suspended above water with their roots submerged, or they are placed in sand or in sterile growing mediums and regularly flooded with liquid nutrients. Proponents say this minimizes nutrient loss and allows more precise control over the nutrients the plants receive.
Hydroponic gardening is emerging as a popular hobby since it provides many advantages over traditional soil gardening. More gardeners are interested in growing their own food, indoors, all year round with this soilless method.
Hydroponics, or hydro, is actually a simple concept. There is a good chance you practice hydroponics without even realizing. Have you ever taken a cutting of a plant and stuck it in a glass of water till roots grew? Then you successfully practiced passive hydroponic cloning.
Are you an orchid lover? Then most likely you are using hydro for your favorite plant. Orchids thrive in a coconut coir/bark mixed growing medium. Since this mix is soilless, even if you are watering by hand, you are technically using a hydroponic method of growing.
Most hydroponic grow boxes and grow closets are private and lockable and come with built in hydroponic systems, lighting and reflective material and with everything else you need to grow large. You can grow any plant in the world inside a grow box or grow closet.
Every part of growth from seed sprouting, cloning to growing mature plants can be done better in a grow box, grow closet or grow tent. Grow boxes and grow closets easily can become part of your home’s interior, masquerading as a storage cabinet with no hint as to what is growing inside. Noise and odours are filtered and hidden Grow tents generally are in a basement, garage or outdoors and are the best place for seed germination and controlled growing climate.
